Wienerstube Cookies

I’ve mention a hundred times that I’m not much of a baker. I definitely don’t make cakes, and I am rarely capable of making a decent cookie. But back when I catered, there were a few foolproof cookies that I’d make if some sweets were required by the client. Not just because I was capable of making this particular cookie, but because they are delicious.

One of these is a chocolate cookie with spices, including black and cayenne pepper. I wouldn’t make them for children, but adults always loved the zing these cookies offer. And, they are an easy refrigerator slice-and-bake cookie. I don’t know the source of this recipe; it’s one I copied from a cookbook and pasted on a card.

Then I googled Wienerstube, and found this recipe, from Maida Heatter’s cookbook called “Cookies.” At least I know who to credit.

Some of the wording is different, but the ingredients are identical. This I found online:

The printable recipe is below.

The cookie dough is straight forward. Then you form a log with the dough; I use a little flour to prevent sticking. I did forgot to re-form the log, so it became somewhat oblong!

Baking the slices of cookie dough is also straight forward.

They’re just as incredible as I remember them!
