The story of how I was gifted this cocktail and subsequently the recipe, is a tale too complicated to recite. But suffice it to say that I was honored, and very happy.
Usually I’m on here rambling on about my food and drink, but this will be a short post, instead.
This drink has alcohol, but it’s also refreshing and light. It’s a perfect spring or summer cocktail, somewhat reminiscent of a mimosa, with some components of a screwdriver. Make sure to get good orange juice, or squeeze your own.
The name obviously refers to the beautiful city of Valencia, Spain, where orange trees are abundant.
Agua de Valencia
Double for 2 cocktails
1/4 shot vodka
1/4 shot gin
3 1/2 ounces fresh orange juice, chilled
3 1/2 ounces Prosecco, chilled
Combine the vodka, gin and orange juice in a shaker with ice. Shake, then strain and pour into glasses.
Top with the Prosecco.
Garnish with slices of orange, lime, and strawberries, or whatever fruit you like, and serve.
I got some little kalamansi/calamansi, or Philippine citrus for the photos from my gardener friend Jil. They really are sour!
