Agua de Valencia

The story of how I was gifted this cocktail and subsequently the recipe, is a tale too complicated to recite. But suffice it to say that I was honored, and very happy.

Usually I’m on here rambling on about my food and drink, but this will be a short post, instead.

This drink has alcohol, but it’s also refreshing and light. It’s a perfect spring or summer cocktail, somewhat reminiscent of a mimosa, with some components of a screwdriver. Make sure to get good orange juice, or squeeze your own.

The name obviously refers to the beautiful city of Valencia, Spain, where orange trees are abundant.

Agua de Valencia
Double for 2 cocktails

1/4 shot vodka
1/4 shot gin
3 1/2 ounces fresh orange juice, chilled
3 1/2 ounces Prosecco, chilled

Combine the vodka, gin and orange juice in a shaker with ice. Shake, then strain and pour into glasses.

Top with the Prosecco.

Garnish with slices of orange, lime, and strawberries, or whatever fruit you like, and serve.

I got some little kalamansi/calamansi, or Philippine citrus for the photos from my gardener friend Jil. They really are sour!

I personally don’t like drinks that taste like alcohol!

This drink sounds wonderful — somehow light and refreshing even with the vodka and gin. Can’t wait to try it. We had a lot of tinto de verano in Spain — this sounds like another to add to our summer sippers.

Oh I love tinto de Verano!

I’ll give this a try instead of my Aperol Spritz

Well nothing beats an Aperol spritz!!!

Love how this cocktail sounds, refreshing but with a nice kick! Perfect for those long spring and summer evenings. And yes, good quality fresh orange juice really makes all the difference. Also, as a Filipino I love the touch of kalamansi for a bit of extra zing

Yes! It was my first experience with kalamansi!
