White Port and Tonic
One of my favorite bloggers is Kirsten Georgi, whose blog is called The Flask Half Full. In fact, if we were neighbors I think we’d be best friends. She travels globally, loves photography and great food, and also loves wine. It’s like my own bio! She’s also extremely funny.
As a professional sommelier (something I’m definitely not) I “met” Kirsten from her previous blog, which was wine-related. When covid hit, her life changed. As she writes: “ Right as the world was emerging from Covid, my husband and I retired early and decided that instead of taking up golf, we’d travel. Not full time, but as much as we could afford, and as much our good health would allow us to do.”
And that’s what her blog is all about now, accompanied by gorgeous photos and hysterically funny accounts of her travels with her husband, and sometimes friends and family.
Wine isn’t the only thing written about by Kirsten. In fact, I found out about white port in this post. I couldn’t find the Graham’s Blend No 5 she highlighted, but I was able to get this Graham’s. All I needed was tonic.
The Flask Half Full is also educational. I love both tawny and ruby port, plus now the white variety, but did you know there is a rosé port as well?!
Porto Tonic
Or, White port and tonic cocktail
2 parts White port
4 parts tonic water
Slice of orange, lemon, blood orange
The white port has a yellowish tint to it, actually. Or, at least this one does!
The ratio seems perfect.
I’ve tried that. It’s good 😀
So good!
Definitely looks like summer.
It’s so good!
Wow — I didn’t even know white port existed. Now I will be on the lookout for. This looks so refreshing for a hot summer day.

I hope you can find it easier then I did!
I don’t usually drink cocktails, but I’d sure be willing to give this one a try!
It’s not strong, which is why I liked it so much!
I’m loving this such a refreshing spin on port! White port and tonic sounds like the perfect summer sipper, especially with those citrus slices. Definitely inspired me to try this combo soon!
It’s such a delight. And so different. For me!!!
Mimi, thank you so much for this post and your kind words! I’m super glad you found some white port and are enjoying the Porto tonic this summer! Your pictures are glorious!! Cheers!!
Thank you! I’m so glad you introduced me to it! We just got back from 3 plus weeks in Africa, and I’m glad the timing of this post worked out. Not much WiFi there!
My husband was in Africa for a couple of weeks last month! He really enjoyed it. Where did you go?
Morocco, Rwanda, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Seychelles, and Tunisia!!!!
Wow! What a trip!! You’ll be posting details, yes??
I don’t think so. Only if there’s something that I ate that I am able to replicate. But yes, what a trip!!!
I, too, did not know there was a white port – but this looks like the perfect evening on the deck midsummer cocktail!! Mollie
I know! Which is why I love blogging!
Looks so refreshing! And I didn’t even know there were white ports! And Kirsten sounds like someone I should follow. Like her I retired early just as the pandemic was ending—and decided to travel as much as possible. And then she loves food and photography… Sounds like a kindred spirit!
She is! You really need to check out her blog!
