Brazilian Lemonade
I found this recipe at the blog Brazilian Kitchen Abroad. I’ve spotted it online before and was intrigued. We never came across this lemonade in Brazil, but then, my drinks were probably all pisco sours! Drink like the locals, right?!
The author of this blog is Aline, pronounced ah-lee-knee, Brazilian born and raised, now living in Dallas, Texas.
According to her bio: “I’m a trained chef with a culinary degree from Le Cordon Bleu, a published food photographer, a recipe developer, and a passionate culinary coach. After working in professional kitchens, running a catering business, and serving as a private chef, I founded Brazilian Kitchen Abroad to help people all over the world introduce delicious Brazilian flavors to their everyday cooking.”
Brazilian lemonade, is actually Brazilian limeade, made with fresh limes. According to Aline: “We call it lemonade because the word for lime in Portuguese is limão, so in Portuguese we call it limonada, which translates to lemonade.”
Brazilian Lemonade
5 limes
1/2 cup sweet condensed milk*
4 cups water**
ice
Slice 4 of the limes into 8 parts each, and add them to a blender.
Add the condensed milk and the water to the blender along with the limes and blend for no more than 15 seconds. The more you blend, the more bitter the limeade will turn out.
Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the juice from the blender into a pitcher filled with ice.
Slice the remaining lime in half, and squeeze into the pitcher for an extra punch of lime flavor.
Stir and serve right away!
I followed the recipe exactly and the lemonade is slightly tart, but not unpleasantly so. It’s really a beautiful color. I think we’ll try some with rum later!
*You can add more condensed milk if you want your limeade a bit sweeter – some people even add a little sugar. It’s up to you!
**You can also add a little more water if you think the lime flavor is too strong – just remember you’ll be adding ice to the pitcher, and the ice will melt at some point.

sounds so refreshing
It is definitely refreshing!!
I bet this would be delightful frozen!
Ohhhhhhhh mmmmmmm. I did not think of that!!!
You could add some tequila and make it even more refreshing! Barb
We did! It was really good. Maybe better than a margarita!
As the saying goes, great minds think alike!! I will be trying this, with the Tequila!
You’ll love it!
I love this drink and agree you could “spike” it for a more adult experience!
I love being an adult!!
Right! Many years ago, I made this lemonade and indeed quite liked it. I need to make it again – thanks for reminding! :)
Absolutely! It really is good!
I would never have thought of using condensed milk in a drink like this but i bet it goes down well! All that wonderful lime juice …
I know! That’s what was so unique about this recipe!
This sounds very interesting. I shall have to make some condensed milk so I can try it.
I never knew you could make condensed sweetened evaporated milk!!!
I’ll take mine with a little booze – rum, tequila???
I think they both would work great!
This strikes me a little bit like a drinkable key lime pie, which I happen to love. Worth a try, thanks!
Ha! It is like a key lime pie smoothie!
I often make a pastry dough with condensed milk, and always have some leftover. This refreshing lemonade will definitely be very useful! :)
Well this is the sweetened condensed milk. Of course you can add some variety of sugar…
I do use the sweetened milk in the dough, so it’ll work perfectly. Just need to get the lime! :)
Oh! Okay, got it!
Have always wanted to try this and now you have inspired us. So refreshing for a hot summer’s day.
I’m so glad I made it! You’ll love it.
What a fun (and easy) recipe! This really does sound like a delicious drink for a hot day…and your idea of adding rum is spot on.
I’m glad I made it, and it would definitely make a great cocktail!
This Brazilian Lemonade sounds like a refreshing twist on traditional lemonade! I love how the condensed milk adds a creamy sweetness that balances out the tartness of the limes. It’s great that Aline’s recipe is so simple, just a few ingredients and a quick blend.
I’m so glad I made it. It was delicious, and refreshing!!!
I think we would love this! And adding rum or cachaça would make it all the better! I, serving a Brazilian favorite soon — I know what we will be sipping before dinner!
Now I have to look up cachaça! Never heard of it!
