Giggle Juice

I came across the recipe online at Delish.com. The recipe is by Lauren Miyashiro, who attended culinary school, and is presently the food director for Delish.

Giggle juice. It’s a happy name! A girlfriend of mine used to make a drink called Sip and Go Naked! I think giggle juice is a nicer name…

This cocktail is best made in a pitcher so there’s a lot to go around. It’s pretty, tasty, and gives you a buzz, and makes you laugh, so it’s all good!

After I made this, I detected a different flavor. So I read the lemonade label. It’s strawberry lemonade! I think regular lemonade would have been better.

Giggle Juice
Slightly adapted

Lemon wedge, for rimming glasses
Sugar, for rimming glasses
1 (750-ml) bottle moscato
2 cups pink lemonade
1 can Fresca
1 c. vodka
2 c. sliced strawberries
1 lemon, sliced into half-moons
Ice

Rim glasses with lemon wedge and dip in sugar. Or, a mixture of salt and sugar can be used.

In a large pitcher, stir together moscato, pink lemonade, soda, vodka, and fruit.

Add ice and stir to combine.

Divide among glasses and serve.

Giggle. Here’s my dog Teddy helping me clean up.

This looks both beautiful and refreshing! Haven’t thought of Fresca in years!

Everyone teases me about my use of Fresca, but it really works in lots of things. I even add a splash to margaritas!

I remember drinking it, and Tab, when I was a teenager, haven’t really seen them in years, but I haven’t been looking for them either.
Here’s how I date myself. Way back in the Summer of Love, my girlfriend and I loaded up my brand new second-hand car with Fresca, cashews, canned tunafish, graham crackers, and popcorn we popped ourselves. My drivers license almost literally did not have the ink dry yet, I’d only gotten it two days before. We drove to a little rock festival not that far away. Woodstock. We’re glad we loaded up on those necessities, which we shared. My mom thought I was at my girlfriend’s house, and her’s at mine. They never found out…

Fresca is seriously a major ingredient for me, as well as a damn good mixer with vodka! I get teased about writing a fresca cookbook!

        Maybe you should!

So many flavors in there! I do love the name, and it looks delicious.

It’s nice and refreshing. Not quite like a sangria.

I love the idea of a pitcher of drinks that works for a group in the summer and I love the name and ingredients in this one. Will be trying it. Thanks.

If you hadn’t included the photo of the Fresca I would not have known it was soda water, as here is a sweetened drink. Love your kitchen helper, and the cocktail!

    • Chef Mimi June 21, 2022 at 6:28 AM - Reply

Really. That’s so interesting that’s it’s a different product! Well, it’s really handy in cocktails. I’ll even put a splash in a margarita!

I have foggy memories of having too many “strip and go naked” cocktails in my Uni days, but I don’t remember the “sip and go naked”. Maybe if I had gone for the sip and go naked my memory wouldn’t be so foggy.
I use to also drink Fresca and vodka and would still if Fresca was available here. Tab on the other hand never landed well on my palette.
Now as for your Giggle juice, it looks to be a very pleasing crowd pleaser and one we’ll try next we have a gathering…

    • Chef Mimi June 21, 2022 at 6:27 AM - Reply

I was very fortunate in that I didn’t drink until my mid 20’s. So no bad sipping and stripping memories! However, I did have an older sister who was a terrible influence, so I got high in many ways without the use of alcohol. I don’t remember Tab. I think it depends where you lived in the US. But also, my mother didn’t buy pop/soda.

Oh, this sounds fun! I’ll bet the Fresca gives it that “tickle your nose” sensation. Cheers! :)

    • Chef Mimi June 21, 2022 at 8:33 AM - Reply

It definitely does!!! bubbly is just way more fun than non-bubbly.

Agreed! My husband doesn’t like carbonation in drinks, but this is one that I’d like to make to share with just the girls anyway. By the way, Teddy is adorable! It’s nice to have a sweet helper in the kitchen.

    • Chef Mimi June 21, 2022 at 4:26 PM - Reply

And, it is kind of girly, although my husband had no problem drinking the pitcher with me! Teddy is so cute, and we never knew he liked strawberries, although he played with them first before eating them!

Love the name and this cocktail looks and sounds so refreshing. My husband and I have been favoring drinks like this over wine lately so this is perfect.

    • Chef Mimi June 21, 2022 at 4:24 PM - Reply

Especially for the summer. But I do love a good chilled white.

  12. Valentina June 21, 2022 at 3:06 PM - Reply

This is exactly my kind of drink, Mimi. Bubbly, fruity and includes vodka. And delightful for summer! :-) ~Valentina

I guess that would sum up my favorite summer drink as well!

Oh hey there, Teddy! :-) This sounds like a delicious combination of flavors – and a great name, too! I can’t tell you the last time I’ve seen a can of Fresca, but maybe I just need to look a little harder. This is a great cocktail for summer gatherings!

    • Chef Mimi June 22, 2022 at 8:04 AM - Reply

I use Fresca for so many drinks. It’s got great fizz and more flavor than, say, topo chico, without having too strong of a flavor.

Nice drink! Fresca is actually a preferred ingredient in a Paloma Cocktail. Giggle juice/water was actually 1920s slang for booze. :-) Fun post — thanks.

I had no idea fresca is a preferred ingredient at all! Fascinating. And a very interesting tidbit about giggle juice! Thanks!

fresca? nope don’t know that one. but for some reason it makes me think of a really sweet soft drink. an orange drink? your drink here looks very refreshing and i love bubbles and teddy is so cute …

    • Chef Mimi June 23, 2022 at 6:10 AM - Reply

It’s not sweet, and the flavor is mildly grapefruit. It’s a handy mixer. I know, Teddy is adorable!

This friend’s family definitely took “sip and go naked” to an extreme! Pitcher drinks are really good – sangria, Pimm’s, summer cup, you’re right – they’re all really good!

So refreshing and delicious. Love how easy this is to throw together and strawberries are so sweet now. We could all use a bit of giggle juice right about now. Going to make a batch right now.
